Underwater Clean Up Dives

Dive Friends Bonaire, together with NetTech, N.V., organizes and sponsors the quarterly Bonaire Underwater Clean Up Dive. The Dive usually occurs on the second Saturday of every third month (January, April, July, and October) between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM, but dates may change so as to not conflict with other events. On each Clean Up Dive, a different area of Bonaire's coastal reefs or beaches is selected and any trash which has not become part of the reef is collected.

A great group of volunteers

We invite and welcome any participants who want to combine vacation with doing the right thing for their reefs! Quarterly cleanups give us the opportunity to focus on the removal of new trash rather than disturbing the flora and fauna that have taken up residence in older trash.

All trash that is recovered is noted on the Center for Marine Conservation data card and is recorded into the CMC's International Marine Debris Database. The sponsors provide free air and a potluck BBQ after this dive, but we do ask you to bring a small side dish if you come to the BBQ.

Additional information is available: click here for future dates of Clean Up Dives or click here for details of past Clean Up Dives.

Please RSVP or direct your questions to Dive Friends Bonaire at +(599) 717-2929 or email cleanup@dive-friends-bonaire.com. (needs to be created).

REEF Field Station Activities

The Reef Environmental Education FoundationTogether with REEF (Reef Environmental Education Foundation), Dive Friends Bonaire wants to be an active organization of recreational divers committed to the preservation of the marine environment.

As Bonaire's first REEF Field Station, we identify and record sightings of fishes on slates. All these surveys are scanned into a database designed specifically for marine life management studies. At Dive Friends Bonaire you can add a new dimension to your diving experience!

All REEF activities at Bonaire Dive Friends are free. Click here for more information about our REEF activities.

After your dive, libraries of reef fish ID books will help you identify hundreds of wonderful fish. Reef Fish ID books and underwater cards are available from our shop for purchase as well.
